Game Jams Galore
Since the very first time I participated in one, I've loved Game Jams - and they have remained a staple for expanding my portfolio outside of University Work. These projects, and more, are all available to download and play on my itch.io page.

Please also check out my University Projects and once you've had a look around!
01

Quantum Field (Global Game Jam 2022)
The theme for this jam was "Duality".

My friends and I put together a Portal-inspired puzzle game based on the principle of quantum superposition, observation, and wave-particle duality. The core of this game was in a fairly simple mechanic: some objects only exist when observed; others only exist when not observed.
For example, if you leave a block on a button, then look away, there is suddenly no more weight on the button. Alternatively, there may be a door you can only walk through while not looking at it.

Last Line (GMTK Jam 2024)
The theme for this jam was "Built to Scale".

I worked solo for this jam over 4 days, and made a PvE horde-rush game about piloting a mech.
As the pilot, you are able to grapple around a city, collecting ammo and fuel - but you have no weapons or offensive capabilities.
When you get into the mech, you can jetpack around the city, firing your high-power machine gun at the waves of enemies and their dropships.

I put together a video devlog after this jam finished - check it out here!

How Do You Fly This Thing? (GMTK Jam 2020)
The theme for this jam was "Out of Control".

At some point, everyone has to make a retro twinstick shooter for a game jam. I decided that idea would be fitting for this jam - but the catch is that sometimes your ship mis "out of control" and changes control schemes from strafing to rotation (and back again), or misfires bullets in the wrong direction - if it even fires them at all.
This inevitably results in your ship (and therefore your firing point) being placed in an extremely awkward position on the screen, making it rather difficult to destroy the waves of incoming enemies.
04
Crypt Happens (TheGDG Jam 3.0, 2024)
The theme for this jam was "Learn".

Crypt Happens was created for TheGDG Jam 3.0, and was my first experience doing a co-operative jam in a group I had never met before.
I managed to make it all the way through without ever getting a merge conflict (by some miracle), and we made a game about navigating a maze, solving puzzles, and finding a sequence of symbols to open the door at the end.

05
Blast from the Past (Global Game Jam 2023)
The theme for this jam was "Roots".

Another Horde Rush Shooter - this time about travelling through time, experiencing the same village in the past and future, and protecting your Sarsaparilla Distillery from the incoming hordes of aliens.

I used this jam as an excuse to make an FPS controller, complete with different firing systems for the past and future versions, and an aim assist mechanic.
06
SOGGIBODIES (Global Game Jam 2024)
The theme for this jam was "Make Me Laugh".

My regular jam team decided to take ourselves substantially less seriously for this jam - given the nature of the theme, it felt appropriate to make a bit of a joke game. With that in mind, we made a ragdoll-based fighting game where players have very limited controls: slide across the ground, spin in a circle, and extend their arms to be rigid.

Unfortunately, all real footage of this game has been lost to time (might not be a bad thing...) - but I did keep a tech-demo reel for the basic mechancis that you can watch on the right.
